Relapse Prevention and Continuing Care

Aftercare / Tracking / Continuing Care

Completing rehab is a massive achievement and can set many up for a sober life, but there are still many challenges to overcome following residential rehab. Continuing care simply means continuing therapy after one leaves a rehab program. It is not specific to any kind of therapy, but refers to after care help such as 12-step program meetings, peer group meetings, halfway housing, out of state conference calls, or continuing individual sessions with a therapist or counselor. Recovery should never end just because one leaves a residential rehab program, Failure to commit to continuing care significantly correlates with relapse.

Residential rehab is not a short stint and completion of a program, and does not necessarily mean completion of rehabilitation. Because addiction is never really "cured" it is important to maintain regular and frequent participation in Unity's drug and alcohol continuing care program. A continued care program will allow those in recovery an opportunity to ease back into society where they can begin to work and save money towards their goals all while receiving extended treatment. With the support of professionals and peers in addiction recovery, working through the temptations that threaten sobriety can be done in a healthy, effective and constructive way.

A recovering addict will find that relapse and continued abuse is the riskiest during the first few months immediately following their drug or alcohol treatment and that temptations can seem overwhelming even to those most committed to maintaining sobriety and change. The steady ground that a patient once began to stand on in the safe confines of the rehab center, will immediately feel a lot shakier in the "real world". While there is no denying that the first few days, weeks, and months out of rehab will be among the toughest, by fully committing oneself to an aftercare program, the odds of maintaining long term sobriety can be increased greatly. Full participation in the therapy sessions or retreats offered by Unity Rehab's continuing care program can be the single most important thing a recovering addict can commit to in order to better cope with the world "outside" and stay sober and addiction free.

There are many issues that can threaten recovery such as temptation, stress, and broken trust in relationships, but by maintaining individual sessions with a therapist or counselor, one can better adjust their relapse prevention plan to accurately tackle the risks to his or her sobriety as they emerge following rehab, discussing ways that triggers to abuse can be handled and temptations avoided. Coping with the challenges that await the individuals upon completion of a rehab will take a large amount of commitment, but success can be achieved and maintained, it just means taking one day in recovery at a time.

We offer a weekly continuing care alcohol and drug rehab program in Florida to provide continuing drug and alcohol treatment for our Alumni. For those out of the state of Florida, they can participate via conference calls. Unlike other drug and alcohol treatment facilities, we provide quarterly renewal retreats at our alcohol and drug treatment center and monthly follow up phone calls for all former patients. Even if you relapse, we encourage you to jump right back in to continuing care and strive to regain your sobriety.

We are here to support our alumni for the rest of their lives, not just while living at Unity's alcohol and drug rehab treatment center in Florida. We also provide detailed tracking of all former patients so we can provide actual statistics of the success stories that begin at Unity in sunny Hobe Sound, FL. After completing the treatment program at Unity, we assist in finding a halfway house and providing on going therapy via continuing care and/or outpatient drug and alcohol therapy after leaving our treatment facility.
